So what really does make happy feet? Having made footwear now for fifty years we've had lots of opportunity to discuss this with customers, members of the public and a range of health care professionals and have come to the conclusion that different things make different feet happy. For people with heel pain, shoes with underfoot cushioning can provide some relief; if you suffer with bunions you’ll need shoes with sufficient width to prevent pressure on the joint; for those who lack sensation in their toes due to diabetes it is vital to have smooth internal seams and to help prevent corns and callus you must make sure there's plenty of space around and on top of your toes. Many people nowadays will wear corrective devices called orthoses in their footwear, so it is useful to have a pair of shoes with a removable insole to give extra space.
